EAST MONTPELIER FIRE DEPARTMENT

EMFD HISTORY

A group of hard working towns people that saw the need for the town of
East Montpelier to have its own Fire Department created EMFD.  Some of
the founding members are currently still active members, while some have
resigned but still reside in the town.

The original fire station was a couple of garage bays located at the end
of Templeton Road.  Today, the East Montpelier Fire Department
operates two stations.  One located on Templeton Road with four bays;
the second station has three garage bays on Route 14 across from the
Town Clerks Office.

The EMFD operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is staffed by
volunteers from East Montpelier and Calais.  Our roster averages 30
members.  Each member commits to hundreds of hours of fire training,
and some members choose to commit to hundreds more hours of
emergency medical service training; earning state/national certificates
in both areas of the department.

We meet every Tuesday night and hold monthly meetings with medical
training, fire training, and periodically hold additional nightly fire training
sessions.  Our members are trained and certified the same as paid
departments throughout the state and are kept up to date on all of the
latest technology.

Our services include all medical services needed from bandaging,
intravenous access, defibrillation, CPR, and some drug interventions.
We provide full services for off road rescue, extrication of patients
trapped in vehicles involved in collisions, natural disasters, and even
the occasional cat in a tree.  On the fire side, we provide full fire
fighting capabilities for structure fires, chimney fires, car fires, fire alarm
activations at homes, schools and businesses, as well as mutual aid to
all of our surrounding towns for fire support.

The East Montpelier Fire Department is also committed to Fire
Prevention and interaction with our communities.  We hold fire
prevention classes at the elementary schools, preschools and local
daycares.  We also participate in Rally Days, Washington County Field
Days and many school sporting events.
